My Top 6 favourite Money-Saving Websites for Australians

This is not a sponsored post - these are just my go-to websites that I wanted to share!

1. OzBargain
This is one of my favourites.  Here you'll find deals, freebies, competitions and more, with the best deals being voted to the front page by the community.  If I'm planning on buying something online, I always search OzBargain first to check for free-shipping or % off codes.

The website is user-friendly and able to be customised, and you can set up alerts for specific stores.  The Birthday Deal List is fantastic, and has a nation-wide list, as well as Birthday offers specific to each State or Territory.

OzBargain: The place where you can find all kinds of big deals (except maybe Ron Burgundy)

2. Booko
Whenever I'm thinking of buying a book, I always go to Booko first.  Just type in the name of the book, author or ISBN number and a list will appear showing the cheapest place to buy it.

Also, some places like booktopia offer free shipping if you're directed to their site via booko (Booktopia's regular price for shipping is $6.95 per order within Australia & New Zealand)

If you're an avid reader, try Booko (or try option #3 below!)

3. Your Local Library Website
Free to join, these days Libraries offer so much more than just books.  My local library has free 24-hour wi-fi (hence the people sitting in their cars outside after closing time!)

There are also other great money-saving services available through their e-collections, such as:

  • Zinio - for reading the latest magazines online
This is a fantastic service that can be accessed online at home.  Most libraries have access to all of the mainstream and popular magazines, such as the Australian Women's Weekly, Better Homes &  Gardens, Good Health, Marie Claire, Money Magazine, Nourish, Practical Parenting, Taste, and  Vogue.

  • PressReader
Local Newspapers and a number of magazines are available to read for free via Press Reader.

  • Busy Things
Over 120 online learning games for 3 to 6 year olds.

4. Choice.com.au
Choice is a great resource for comparing products before purchasing  - possibly saving you money in the long run, particularly on large items such as vehicles, whitegoods and brown goods .

The hard copy of the magazine is available free to borrow at most libraries, but many libraries also offer electronic copies to borrow, which means you don't have to leave your home, and can request a specific edition (depending on which item you're wanting to research).

With the website, some articles are available for free, but for the in-depth reports you'll need a paid membership for access.

Choice Magazine offers comparisons on a range of items including washing machines

5. PriceHipster
A great site for comparing prices from various stores (including BigW, Kmart, Coles, Woolworths, ASOS + more) and finding bargains.  It's a super-fast site and easy to use.

It's great when you know what you're looking for, and want to find out which store has it on sale at the moment.

I also love the price history feature, which lets you see how often the item is on sale at each store, so you can anticipate when it'll be on sale again.

6. MoneySmart
MoneySmart is an Australian website that has a range of tips on making the most of your money.  There is information on saving, investing, superannuation and insurance, plus a range of online calculators, tools and resources.  If you're wanting to save money, have a look at the following pages:

There are thousands of dollars in unclaimed cash listed on the Unclaimed Money Register.
